Enemy Combatant: Which word doesn't Bill Sellers understand?
Joe Gandleman links to a list of banished words at some state college with this curious entry:
ENEMY COMBATANT - 'Makes no sense. Do we have friendly combatants? Neutral combatants? Or how about enemy bystanders? If they are your enemy, just say so.' - Bill Sellers, Hampton, Va.
Bill, a example of a friendly combatant might be something like, oh I don't know, a United States Marine. A neutral combatant would be a Swiss soldier. During major combat in Spring of 2003, Iraqi civilians would have been considered enemy bystanders.
Are these concepts difficult to grasp?
