Auburn number one? Ha!

Professor Bainbridge notes Auburn's ridiculous contention that they should have a share of the national championship:

I'm sorry, but the good folks at Auburn need to find a little square of reality and camp out on it. After they nearly blew the Sugar Bowl, did they not see the can of whup ass that USC opened up on a very good Oklahoma team?
Let's be clear. Auburn didn't "nearly blow the Sugar Bowl." They did blow it.

Virginia Tech, God love 'em, handed that game to Auburn on a silver platter. But for one dropped pass in the end zone and a missed twenty-something yard field goal, Auburn would be have left the Dome shocked and humiliated.

Now Auburn had an awesome season, and they deserved their victory in the Sugar Bowl. But National Champions? Ha!
